Carrollton City Senior and Disabled Homestead Tax Exemptions
The Carrollton City Council unanimously approved an amendment to an ordinance that raises the senior and disabled tax exemptions from $80,000 to $87,000 each during the Tuesday, June 6 meeting.
This amended ordinance is now in effect and applies to Tax Year 2023 and subsequent tax years. Eligible individuals who are 65 years of age or older or have a disability, as defined by the Social Security Administration as one who is totally disabled, may apply for one of the exemptions, but not both.
The qualifying criteria include being the owner and primary resident of a single-family residential unit within the city limits of Carrollton and not claiming a homestead exemption on any other property on January 1 of the year of application.
